RONA MS Bike Tour - Ottawa to Kemptville

For the past 20 years, the RONA MS Bike Tours have offered cyclists of all fitness levels a fully supported ride that mixes fun with fundraising, combining a great cycling experience with the reward of helping to end MS.

Cyclists pay a registration fee and must raise a minimum of $250 in pledges in order to participate. To thank you for your fundraising efforts, you will be eligible for a variety of prizes based on total pledges raised.

2010 IFAF World Flag Championship

Calling all volunteers! 

Football Canada is proud to once again host the World Senior Men's and Women's Senior Flag Football Championships. The 5th edition of the IFAF World Flag Championships will be held in Ottawa this summer between August 11 and 15. 2010 marks the second time in World Flag Football Championships history that the event is to be held in Canada (the first being Jean-Sur-Richelieu, Quebec in 2008).

Games will be held from August 13th to 15th. The medal round games and closing ceremonies will be held at the RA Centre. Updates regarding the event’s schedule including the times of games and field locations will be posted on this site as they become available.   

Country Federation teams include Sweden, Germany, Austria, Denmark, Italy, Israel, Japan, Korea, Mexico, USA and Canada. Canada is the defending men's World Champion from 2008 while the women’s team is the defending silver medalist. We are expecting over 300 participants and the games will be held at Carleton University, the RA Centre and Brewer Park.

Boot Camp for the Cure

Are you up for a challenge, while supporting a GREAT CAUSE?  Boot Camp fitness is a great way to challenge your body and stay fit.  This is your chance to try BOOT CAMP and see what you are made of!

WHEN: Wednesday August 18th, 2010  @ 6:15pm  ** RAIN OR SHINE **
WHERE: Parliament Hill, Ottawa
COST: $10 per person
ATTIRE:
PINK PINK and more PINK!
WHAT TO BRING: yoga mat, hand weights, towel and water (Don’t worry if you don’t have all of these items)

Ottawa Charity Ping Pong Tournament

The Youth Services Bureau, Operation Come Home, and Christie Lake Kids want you to play ping pong in the inaugural Ottawa Charity Ping Pong Tournament (OCPP). They are bringing together people, ping pong, athleticism, and fun in an effort to raise money and awareness for these valuable local charities.

They are thrilled to be hosting this event at Capital Music Hall located at 128 York Street in the Byward Market. With over 150 participants expected, this is sure to be a ping pong event of epic proportions. The fun begins Friday, August 27 2010 at 19:00 and continues non-stop until midnight. The Underwear Affair: Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation

Join Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation's Uderwear Affair presented by Marks and help uncover the cure for underfunded below-the-waist cancers like prostate, ovarian, and colorectal. On September 11, 2010, run the competitive 10K or walk the fun 5K and show Ottawa that theres absolutely no shame in bringing a little awareness to down there-ness.

The fun continues even after you cross the Finish Line with the EXPOsed After Party! Grab a well deserved drink, strut your stuff in the legendary costume contest, and dance the night away with your fellow participants!

Canadian Blood Services understands your lives are busy. If you find that you are unable make your appointment for any reason, please call 1 888 2 DONATE (1 888 236-6283) and reschedule. This way we can try and offer your spot to someone else.

 

Canadian Blood Service host mobile clinic in various parts of the city. However, most convenient is our Blood Donor Clinic located on 1575 Carling Avenue in Ottawa. Hours of operation for this location are as follows:

 

Monday: 8 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday: 3:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.

Friday: 9:30 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Every time you make an appointment to donate blood you could potentially be saving three lives. Call 1-888-2-DONATE and make and appointment at our Carling Avenue location to donate today!

Giving blood is a great way for busy and active people to give back to their community without having to invest a lot of time.

Pathways to Education

Pathways to Education is an award-winning program that supports youth in low-income neighbourhoods to complete high school and move on to post-secondary education. The program is operated by Pinecrest-Queensway Community Health Centre in the west end of Ottawa. 

Tutors
•    Commit up to three hours, one night a week, Monday to Thursday, 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
•    Engage and get to know high school-aged students
•    Work with students in core subject areas of the Ontario curriculum (Math, English, French, Science, History, Geography)
•    Tutor students both in small groups and one-to-one

Group Mentor
•    Commit to two hours, one night  every two weeks, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesdays or Wednesdays
•    Co - facilitate small groups of youth in engaging and inclusive activities (e.g. cooking, photography, guitar, theatre, etc.)
